A Letter from Sue
Some of you know that I became aware of my sister’s cognitive decline 2 years ago and last July 2025, moved her from New Mexico into our home with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Even since last July she has had a significant downward spiral. Several of you have been involved with her care and my dear husband has become a care provider neither of us anticipated he would be. He has been amazing and my sister is very attached to him. It is apparent to me that my career has prepared me “For such a time as this!”
Prior to Jeanne moving in with us, I had begun looking for a buyer for my business in 2025. Partly because I knew I was going to need to care for my sister, who is 5 years younger than me and because I will be 80 y/o in 2027. I entertained several proposals last year, but I wasn’t just looking for just “anybody”! My commitment was to find someone who would value the culture we have created of treating our clients, placed in our care with dignity, respect and honestly, God’s love. We want our clients to know they are valued and have a right to quality of life to the end.
In August of last year, I began working with a business advisor, who helped me see the value of adding a team member, Genia…her addition has been a huge asset and has allowed the business to grow. My other goal in working with an advisor was to direct me in selling my business as I realized this process was totally beyond my ability.
I wanted to give you a little advanced notice that a change in ownership is occurring on October 5th . I will be staying on full time for 6 months to support a smooth transition and will be advising for a while longer. In May of this year, I began a conversation with Ben Lewis and Andrew Brill, with Two Dreams Capital. I will be introducing them to you later this week. I’m convinced they share my vision or I would not be entrusting DHCS to them.
I understand that this news can be shocking. I too am a bit shocked it is happening. I know you can understand the facts of why I have made this decision. But the question I’m sure you are asking is what does this mean for you? Obviously, it is a big change. Genia is making the transition with Ben and Andrew which will provide some consistency. I’m confident as you meet them, you will see their heart for this business also. My hope is that you will continue to faithfully serve your clients. It is the dear ones for whom we care that engages your heart and is what sets DHCS apart, because of you!
For me, honestly, there is sadness stepping away from something I love and the relationships I have built with clients and you, the care providers. I began Denver Home Care Solutions in 2012. I have been passionate about finding people like you who would go the extra mile when we were in a bind because you cared for the person, not just the pay. I have felt this business was God’s gift to me and He allowed me to manage His business for His saints, you and our clients! You have walked with me through the good, bad and the ugly. So many of you have sacrificed your time when there was a staffing crisis. So many of you have held the hand of someone when they were moving into their heavenly home. Some of you have been an advocate for your client with the family, the medical system or Adult Protective Services. Many of you have attended the memorial services of our clients. You have enriched the lives of so many through your acts of service!!! The wonderful reputation of DCHS rests on you.
My heart is so full of gratitude for each one of you and I will miss that. I will also miss the funny stories; one of my favorites was a client who called me and said, “Sue, you are not going to believe this, but someone broke into my trailer and stole my false teeth!” My reply, “You are correct, I do not believe that; I will be over in 45 minutes and we will find your teeth”. Which we did, in his pants pocket in the washing machine….they survived the wash!
DHCS has certainly been an outgrowth of my heart! I am counting on you to carry the legacy forward. Because I will continue to be involved, we will have opportunities for further discussions and to reminisce about your favorite or most difficult situations as you wish and to appreciate our relationship.
I am sending this letter to all DHCS clients and Care Providers today. If any of you have questions or concerns feel free to contact me or Ben or Andrew, who are more than willing to hear your questions or concerns. See their contact information below:
